Library Budgeting
FCPS Library Media Budget Policies
- The purpose of the media center budget is to enhance student access to materials and align the Library Media Center collection size with state standards.
- The number of students in your school determines your budget amount based on a per pupil allotment (this will be subject to change periodically).
- Current per pupil allotments are: $14.42 per pupil in ES -- $14.90 per pupil in MS -- $15.52 per pupil in HS
- Library media specialists receive a list of the budget allocations for their schools in August. They should use this money to purchase instructional materials, library media supplies, and other items for use in the media center.
- It is recommended that this money NOT be used to purchase equipment, especially equipment which will not be used in the media center area. Schools usually have an “equipment budget” that they can use to purchase data projectors, document camera, and headsets, etc. for school-wide use.
- By the end of November, 80% of your budget should be spent
- In the spring of each year librarians will receive a packet that explains the process for purchasing periodicals. The expenditures for periodicals will come out of the media center’s budget for the next year.
- Most databases are chosen and paid for by the Supervisor of Media Service’s office. Any additional databases can be purchased using the school-based media budget.
